What you will do in your working day

Responsibilities and duties:

To provide quality childcare by:

  • Reading, understanding and following the settings policies and procedures
  • Ensuring the setting is always welcoming and stimulating
  • Being a Key Worker
  • Planning, preparing and implementing activities for my Key Children
  • Listening to and encouraging children’s inclusion in all aspects of the service, this will in turn value different abilities, ethnic backgrounds, and circumstances
  • Organising the resources prior to children’s arrival
  • At the end of the session ensure a safe tidy-up routine is used
  • Organising the food service with awareness of allergies and cultural / religious dietary codes
  • To look at ways to encourage children to help with the selection, preparation and clearing away of healthy snacks and drinks
  • Providing children with appropriate developmental risk-taking opportunities and challenges within the play environment and empowering individuals to risk assess this appropriately.
  • We are maintaining good communication links between parents / carers, children and other professionals involved in the child’s life
  • Attending relevant training courses as required, e.g., EYFS, Observation, Safeguarding and maintaining their validity
  • Proactively participating in staff meetings, supervision and appraisals
  • Bringing your own agenda and ideas and preparing in advance for planned meetings
  • Following Daily Routines to ensure the smooth running of the nursery
  • Reporting any concerns to Management Team

Health and safety:

  • To ensure a safe environment for all children and adults within the setting, including good hygiene standards and safety procedures including completing daily risk assessments / checks, including quality provision, and reporting any concerns to the management team
  • To follow policies and procedures for any accidents and emergencies taking guidance from Management Team
  • Following Fire Safety Standards
  • Following cleaning rota and completing duties to ensure a clean and safe environment.

Administrative Duties:

  • Completing Observations, Planning and Development Files of Key Children
  • Completing tasks / checks as per daily responsibilities
  • To keep accurate notes of any changes in a child’s attendance pattern or behaviour and inform management immediately
  • To carry out regular head counts to account for all children
  • To record accidents / incidents to a high standard and report to the Management Team

Working in Partnership:

  • To build and maintain positive, respectful and professional relationships with parents, carers, colleagues and other professionals attending the setting
  • To encourage supportive parental involvement to help maintain consistency of care in the setting
  • To develop and sustain positive professional relationships with the local community, including links with schools, libraries etc.
  • To keep any information regarding the children, their families, and staff completely confidential in line with the confidentiality policy

Other

  • To assist in promoting the setting within the local area
  • To attend any other relevant meetings and training as directed
  • Attending out-of-hours activities to promote the nursery, such as open days, fayres, charity events etc
  • To adhere to any other duties requested by the Manager that are of a reasonable nature
