What you will do in your working day
In Private Client Services (PCS) every day is different as we deal with a variety of tax problems that our clients face through every stage of life. These clients could be farmers, entrepreneurs, international executives, CEOs, lawyers, doctors, landlords, movie stars, sportspeople, retired individuals etc.
We support clients in untangling the tax legislation and translating this into meaningful advice, which is bespoke to them, and keeping them updated with constant changes in tax laws. We also work with an established network of lawyers, IFAs, bankers in providing a complete service. Our team spans across all our offices, supported also by an international network.
Initially in your career you would be acquiring knowledge on income and capital gains tax, and how this interacts with a client’s personal tax return. As you progress through your career you will be exposed to more advisory work which could involve advising on any number of issues a client faces.
By the end of your first year we aim for you to be able to:
- Prepare tax computations and tax returns for individuals, trusts, estates and partnerships
- Assist directors and managers with technical research and consultancy services
- Communicate directly and confidently with our clients
- Liaise with HM Revenue & Customs on behalf of clients
The training you will be getting
- You will be ATT and CTA qualified
- Training will be a mix of classroom based courses, self-study and on-the-job learning
- Classroom sessions will be block release and generally take place at our training provider's premises in central Reading
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- After achieving the ATT and CTA qualifications, you will also start to progress towards a management role with our internal Management Development programme
- This could allow you to potentially forge a route all the way to being a Partner in the firm
