What will the apprentice be doing?
• Attend and abide by the training programme as directed by the University of London and the Engineering Trust Training Ltd.
• To learn, apply and abide by relevant legislation and safe working practices during the apprenticeship.
• Learn how to; utilise resources effectively including the roles and responsibilities of relevant people; ensure the correct tools, materials and equipment are available; produce risk assessments and method statements.
• How to plan work programmes, the importance of working within contract requirements and how to complete the necessary reports.
• Develop skills and knowledge about design principles, layout, and operating principles, installation, decommissioning, fault finding, fault diagnosis, component replacement, testing and re-commissioning techniques for industrial and commercial ventilating, heating, water supply, waste (effluent discharge), drainage, systems, and related electrical systems.
• Assist with providing support and advice to other stakeholders.
• Working effectively with colleagues, the public, clients, service centre, contract supervisors, and other members of the service and facilities team.
• Solving problems within their own scope of responsibility, by applying technical and behavioural skills and knowledge to define the problem, identify, evaluate, and select alternatives and implement solutions.
• Attend review meeting with UoL Management and ETT Training Officers as required.
• To ensure the requirements of the University are always met through continuous improvement and training on new systems and equipment.
Additional Responsibilities
• To undertake appropriate administrative tasks.
• Attending relevant meetings.
• To undertake any necessary additional training and/or development as specified by University of London.
• To maintain safe workplace practice and procedures in accordance with the requirements of Health and Safety legislation.
• To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant statutory fire and Health and Safety regulations and recommendations and attend safety training as required.
• Exercising responsibilities in an ethical manner.
• Actively follow and promote the University of London policies, including the University's Dignity at Work and Equal Opportunities Policy and actively promote these wherever possible.
• Any other duties consistent with both the grade and scope of the post
• Any other duties which may arise commensurate with the apprenticeship as directed by line manager/supervisor.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Qualifications included:
- Building Services Engineering Service and Maintenance Engineer Apprenticeship Standard.
- Company Training Plan & Assessment.
- Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Building Services Engineering Technology and Project Management
- Level 2 Functional Skills - Maths (If required)
- Level 2 Functional Skills - English (If required)
- End Point Assessment at the end of the apprenticeship
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Upon completion of your apprenticeship you will have the skills, knowledge, experience and qualification to become a Building Services Engineer. We commit to let all apprentices know 3 months in advance of the end of an apprenticeship if there will be a permanent position available upon passing your end point assessment. In the event that there isn’t a permanent position available internally, we will work closely with the training provider and our member institutions to support you to apply for other roles externally.
