What will the apprentice be doing?

Daily reception duties to include:

  • Greeting of visitors
  • Answering telephone and operating the access control devices
  • Issue of visitor badges
  • Issue safeguarding literature to visitors
  • Sorting of incoming mail, dating and distribution accordingly
  • dealing with outgoing mail including the use and operation of the franking machine
  • Ensure in-house forms are kept up to date and replenished as necessary in the office and staff room
  • Keep the reception area clean and tidy at all times including the updating of literature held around the reception and waiting area
  • Provide general administrative support including word processing and data processing
  • Dealing with telephone and email enquiries and radio communications
  • Assist with whole school communications to parents
  • Assist with the reprographic requirements of the Senior Leadership Team and curriculum teams
  • Assist with the distribution, collection and update of student information on the school’s management
    system
  • Carry out clerical duties as required by the Office Manager
  • General hospitality
  • Assist with the detention procedure
  • To participate in training and learning activities and performance development as required

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship Standard:

  • You will not be required to attend Dudley College premises as the course is delivered in the workplace only
  • An assessor will be allocated to you to progress/help you through your course. Continual assessments, coupled with assignments/or exams depending on course of study
  • Time spent training will be part of the agreed contracted hours of the working week
  • At the end of your training, you will sit an exam and submit course work as part of your assessment, and you will receive a Level 3 qualification
  • Where a business administrator has not already achieved Level 2 English and maths, they must do so before taking the end-point assessment
  • All in school training i.e. safeguarding, fire safety, Bromcom etc. alongside Office Manager as apprenticeship mentor

Things to consider

Must be able to get in to work for the start of the day – own transport is preferable. This is a Term Time Only position. Your wages will be paid on a pro rata basis. A DBS check and references will be required. It is a requirement of this post that personal holidays are taken during normal school holidays. Due to the nature of the post, you will need to be flexible in your work ethic and willing to help the rest of the team. You will be keen to learn new skills which will develop your knowledge and understanding of business administration and set you in good stead for a future in this field.
