    Apprentice will need to flexible in their hours of work as the ship attendance revolves around the tides, in which the tides move forward approx. 1 hour per day. Overtime will be paid for any out of hours attendance or time in lieu gained.

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Boarding vessels when are where required
  • Communicate to all relevant parties to ensure the most efficient port stay
  • Liaison with statutory authorities such as customs and the harbour authority
  • Ensure that goods / services are ordered and supplied to the ships promptly
  • Accurate recording and reporting of information during the ships port call
  • Ensuring administration is completed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Handling calls and queries and ensuring responses are in a timely manner
  • Liaise and coordinate with staff from other departments
  • Coordinate husbandry services for the ship such as crew changes, technicians, visitors, spares, provisions, cash to master, bunkers, fresh water, waste
  • Inputting data into spreadsheets the Ports bespoke agency management system
  • Always working in a safe and efficient manner
  • Any other additional duties that may be reasonable required of you by your line manager

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will attend Boston College at least twice a month where you will receive one-to-one support from your assessor. On successful completion of the Apprenticeship, you will achieve a level 3 business administration qualification.

Functional Skills in English and maths if required.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

The role will be for a total of 21-months (18-months practical period plus a 3-month end point assessment) with the opportunity to gain a full-time position afterwards upon completion of apprenticeship.
