What will the apprentice be doing?

  • To assist with serving customers in a polite manner.
  • To assist with preparing, cooking (to order) and serving hot food under the direction of the Café Manager including, but not exclusively: paninis, soup, jacket potatoes, toasties (includes temperature checking of hot food), plus basic preparation and cooking of food including bacon, salad and fruit items involving portioning, defrosting, and packaging (main equipment used is grill/griddle).
  • To assist with ensuring freezers are defrosted on a regular basis.
  • To assist with ensuring all equipment including fridges, microwaves, panini press and hot cabinets are cleaned in accordance with guidelines.
  • To assist with regularly check the temperatures of fridges and freezers ensuring compliance with H&S guidelines.
  • To assist with maintaining a clean and hygienic work area at all times.
  • To assist with ordering food stock in a timely manner, receiving deliveries and storing appropriately. Assist with marking all items with correct pricing if necessary.
  • To assist with maintaining the ordering of general supplies such as cups, lids, jacket potato boxes, napkins etc.
  • To assist with replenishing shelves and stock rotation.
  • To follow cleaning schedules on a daily / weekly / monthly basis.
  • To follow date check schedules on a weekly / monthly basis.
  • To assist with ensuring vending machines are replenished with stock regularly.
  • To maintain food hygiene as necessary.
  • To assist with replenishing and cleaning coffee machines on a daily basis.
  • To clean chairs and tables on a regular basis and put all chairs up on tables at the end of the working day.
  • To assist with maintaining display of books, CDs, puzzles and other items for sale.
  • To assist with ensuring rubbish bags and waste cardboard are available for collection by cleaning staff.
  • To contribute to nurturing friendly relationships with customers to increase loyalty and boost C360’s reputation.
  • To report customer complaints to the Café Manager following C360’s Complaints Policy.
  • To ensure all necessary and regulatory training is maintained including food hygiene & first aid. Undertake other training as required by C360.
  • To assist in handling health and safety issues in the café space under the guidance of the Café Manager. Report incidents and accidents in line with C360’s processes and procedures.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • The apprentice will be working towards the Hospitality Team Member Level 2 apprenticeship standard.
  • All delivered within the workplace via online training and at Colchester Institute Campus.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • To be able to apply for any appropriate vacancies which may be available at the end of the apprenticeship term.

The C360 Community Café based in the Primary Care Centre (PCC) is an important service for the PCC staff as well as their patients. C360 are already well known in the hospital running the Home from Hospital and Befriending Service with partners.
