What will the apprentice be doing?

In preparation for the expansion of Makita‘s production footprint, a position is open that will provide a future growth opportunity within a quality discipline.

Typical day to day duties will include:

  • To be responsible for the development and implementing quality standards and quality control systems
  • Ensure external quality processes are capable and consistent in giving the correct component specification and quality
  • Monitor and analyse quality performance
  • Develop and implement plans to meet company objectives
  • Inspect and test materials, equipment, processes and products to ensure quality specifications are met
  • Understand general business, departmental and personal objectives and develop independent/team solutions to achieve the required targets
  • Assist in the documentation, development, support, assembly and design of new or updated jigs, fixtures, machines and processes
  • Seek a suitable supervisor to support completion of formative and summative assessments, teaching and learning tools
  • Make quality decisions and recommendations based upon limited information by using your professional judgement and consideration of the level of risk, within the parameters defined by the department manager, company policies and authorisation system
  • Submit forms and documentation by the required deadlines
  • Attend meetings, conduct desktop and field research and perform all practical and administrative duties assigned by the supervisor
  • Assisting in projects, offering suggestions for improvement and writing up reports

GENERAL TASKS

To stay updated with developments in your specialist area and general quality practices, apply this knowledge in order to advance the technical basis quality.

  • To advance the quality of a technical base
  • To lead, motivate, support and maintain project groups where necessary
  • Be pro-active, challenging and determined to understand and eliminate the root cause of problems
  • Demonstrate a positive and pro-active approach to daily tasks
  • Communicate clearly and concisely at all business levels, both verbally and written
  • Demonstrate an attitude of continuous improvement and cooperation within the department
  • Take on other reasonable tasks when requested by the department manager
  • Ensure you are fully conversant and compliant with the Company’s Health & Safety policies

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • This is a level 4 Quality Practitioner apprenticeship delivered over a period of 18 months
  • Functional Skills in maths and English, if required 

The apprentice would be required to attend the training centre for a one-week block, followed by 7 x 1 day per week workshops at the training centre and attending meetings with an assessor, at the company, one day per month.

The training provider is In-Comm Training Services. They have two sites; you will attend either Telford TF3 3AJ or Walsall WS9 8UG.
