What will the apprentice be doing?
Good Inwards:
- This role involves measuring and identifying all materials that come into the factory
- Reading drawings
- Understanding purchase orders and their requirements
- Liasing with the office on a regular basis
This is a very important role within the organisation and key element of our quality system.
Material Handling
- This involves preparing material for manufacture
- Identifying the variety and properties of the materials used in the manufacture of the large array of products made at our factory
General Training:
The apprentice will soon have hands on training in both mig and tig welding processes to assess the aptitude and fit for these roles.
- Measuring
- Cutting and processing material using a varied methods i.e. sawing, shearing, drilling
The apprentice will be involved in the assembly and wiring of navigational aids for offshore applications such as fog signals, light stations etc. Our drive is to create a multi-skilled, confident, capable member of our full time work force.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
All apprentices undertaking this apprenticeship must achieve:
Mandatory qualifications:
- Diploma in engineering operations (skills).
- Certificate or Diploma in engineering operations (knowledge).
- Apprentices without Level 1 (or equivalent) in English and maths must ensure that apprentices achieve Level 1 and take the test for Level 2 prior to taking the end-point assessment.
- End Point Assessment (EPA).
- Functional Skills if required.
College attendance is required one day per week at Dudley College Campus, Advance I, Priory Road, Dudley, DY1 4AD.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
A full-time position. Possible roles - coded welder, trained fabricator, autoCAD, etc.
