What will the apprentice be doing?

You’ll assist the team in food preparation and production and menu development as well as keeping the kitchen clean, tidy and organised.

  • Kitchen basics - cleaning, dishwashing, dealing with waste and recycling, food packaging and labelling and helping with food deliveries
  • Learn importance of food and health safety as well as gaining practical skills - knife handling, using kitchen equipment, food preparation, cooking and stock control
  • Progress to create your own recipes

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The candidate will follow a Level 2 Apprenticeship programme and study towards a full Level 2 Standard in Commis Chef. This training will be structured and delivered by Cheshire College – South & West. If the candidate does not hold GCSE grades A-C (9-4) or equivalent, they will be required to complete a Level 1 Functional Skill in the relevant subject.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Possible progression to a Head Chef role for the right candidate.

The Old Broken Cross is situated along side the Trent and Mersey canal on the edge of Northwich. This family friendly pub offers a traditional bar, snug, pool room and restaurant area that can cater for all events. There are three beer gardens to enjoy, one facing the canal where you can sit and watch the boats go by. We offer an extensive menu of home cooked food which also includes a lighter bite menu, daily specials and a varied kids menu. The traditional Sunday lunch is a widely talked about offer and represents exceptional value for money. Alongside the food menu there is a great selection of lagers, ciders, bitters, cask ales, wines, non alcoholic drinks and soft drinks. We offer Sky Sports and BT sports across 4 screens and an outdoor TV on one of our beer gardens. We have a pool table and dart board. We also have a regular entertainment programme.
