What will the apprentice be doing?

You’ll work alongside likeminded people all committed to making a recognised contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of RN personnel, providing professional exercise and evidence-based lifestyle information as well as taking on vital executive duties in the process. You will also:

  • Promote and deliver fitness, health and wellbeing
  • Lead and manage sport and sports teams
  • Lead and manage Adventurous Training 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 3 Apprenticeship – Personal Trainer.

On successful completion of this apprenticeship the Personal Trainer will be eligible to apply to become an Affiliate of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

You’ll start your naval career as an Able Rate. On completion of Leading Physical Trainers Qualifying Course you will be promoted to Leading Hand. If you show the right commitment, skills and academic ability, you could become a Commissioned Officer. Members of the Royal Navy are promoted on merit. Work hard and you can rise through the ranks.

Things to consider

Your Royal Navy career begins with 10 weeks’ basic training at HMS Raleigh, a shore base in Torpoint, Cornwall. Students learn instructional techniques and the practical aspects of taking PT classes, plus fitness principles, diet & nutrition, circuit and weight training theory, anatomy and physiology, fitness testing and sports administration.
