    Initially for approximately the first 12 months, this will be a Monday to Friday position 8.00am-4.00pm At a stage appropriate to the apprentice’s age and skill level, they will move to a shift working pattern.

What will the apprentice be doing?

We need dependable, efficient, safety-minded individuals wishing to launch a career in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics). As a Production Apprentice, you will work as part of an engaged & diverse team, learning the skills to successfully run one of the specialist departments within our multi channel plant at Trafford Park, Manchester.   

Apprentices in Cargill learn via ‘classroom’ sessions and ‘on the job’, whilst earning a competitive wage, which progresses throughout the course of the programme as skills are learnt and milestones met.

In addition to the Level 3 Science Manufacturing Technician standard training you will:

  • Train in the safe and effective operation of the plant and equipment on the plant.
  • Learn to use a central display screen to monitor the plant and identify issues.
  • Learn how to conduct in-process quality control checks and other analytical checks.
  • Carry out plant housekeeping to maintain safe & efficient plant operation.
  • Learn how to carry out routine first line maintenance tasks.
  • Learn to identify and resolve problems within the process.
  • Participation in projects and community activities.
  • Maintain detailed training logs to support both site based training & your studies.
  • Contribute to improvements in site standards by providing your valued feedback.
  • Be part of one of the largest and most successful private companies in the world.

What we're looking for:

  • An analytical approach to science subjects that can be applied in a practical chemical engineered production process
  • Strong problem solving ability
  • An ability to demonstrate agility to learn and work with multiple software applications quickly and effectively, e.g., SAP, Microsoft Teams

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 3 Science Manufacturing Technician Standard:

  • City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Process Technology (delivered via distance learning)
  • Work Based portfolio of competence
  • IOSH Working Safely certificate
  • End Point Assessment

 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • Pipeline for permanent Process Team Member positions on site
  • Longer term potential to move to more senior operations positions
