What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Able to work without direct supervision, as agreed within the team, to achieve the objectives of the post
  • Able to make correct decision within a set of clear guidelines
  • Able to prioritise tasks
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to use tact and persuasive skills
    where necessary
  • Ability to manipulate fine tools, e.g., for venepuncture
  • Able to use a variety of IT systems e.g., email, EMIS
  • Experience of direct patient care in a health or social care setting
  • Experience of team working
  • Experience of working without direct supervision
  • Ability to practice in a non-discriminatory way when approaching all colleagues and service users
  • An understanding of team dynamics, including what factors make a team work well and what can go wrong and why

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Senior Healthcare Support Worker Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • The course is designed to have in depth support and acquire skills into this apprenticeship. There will be an intense period of learning at college at the start, you will then work in the teams and attend college undertaking the apprenticeship one day a week
  • You will receive training in the workplace and off the job and will be fully supported in your learning by Weston College
  • Apprenticeship contracts are fixed term for a period of 18/21 months. Previous healthcare experience is not required, but an interest in the role is essential as well as a caring, compassionate attitude
  • We will also require you to have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle. This is because our work is based in the community setting therefore visiting patents homes
  • Although GCSE Grades 9-4/A*-C (or equivalent) in maths & English Language desirable, we will also consider applicants who are willing to develop these through additional training to include Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship programme
  • Having the right attitude, work ethic and commitment to your education as well as your employment are essential requirements to this role
  • All successful apprentices will be guaranteed a Healthcare Support Worker position once your training is complete

Things to consider

Full driving licence and access to car in work time (with business use insurance) This is due to working with lots of patients in different locations within the community. GCSE Grades 9-4 in Maths & English Language are desirable, applicants who are willing to develop in these areas as part of the apprenticeship programme are welcome to apply.
