What will the apprentice be doing?

  • The book-keeping and accounts Apprenticeship role will entail processing of client invoices and bank entries for limited company or sole trader/partnership book-keeping clients onto cloud-based book-keeping software
  • The Apprentice will also be involved in preparing full balance sheet reconciliations for these clients as part of month and year end procedures
  • The role will extend also to preparing and submitting company VAT Returns to HMRC in accordance with the Making Tax Digital regime
  • The role will also include preparation of statutory accounts for limited companies, and year end accounts for sole traders and partnerships. These may be prepared from prime records, although many will utilise computerised book-keeping packages such as Quickbooks and Xero
  • There will also be the opportunity to deal with company secretarial matters and prepare draft corporation tax computations

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Advanced Diploma - AAT Level 3 Advanced builds on the knowledge gained in the Foundation level. If you work in accounts or have studied accountancy before, you may be able to start at this level. You’ll learn complex accounting techniques, and master a number of accounting disciplines including financial processes, advanced bookkeeping, final accounts and ethical practices for accountants
  • This level will encourage you to master more complex accounting principles in both Bookkeeping and Management Accounting
  • You’ll develop the technical skills to start, or progress, your career in accountancy and this will allow you to continue with your studies onto Level 4
  • To pass this level you’ll need to study five units (also known as subjects), which are all mandatory. Four of the units are examined individually and there is also a synoptic assessment that you’ll take towards the end of the level, which incorporates the final two units as well as drawing on all of the other units

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • The company is both an ACA (ICAEW) and ACCA training office and can offer progression onto these qualifications to the right candidate. Opportunities exist for progression to more senior roles in the firm. We have a thriving audit portfolio and company audit work can be made available to trainees wishing to gain experience in this field
