What will the apprentice be doing?
Purpose: To care for and enable children to engage in a range of play and learning opportunities and to participate in the day to day running of the nursery.
Responsible to: The Management Team
Main duties and responsibilities:
- To provide and maintain a high-quality service to children and their families working as part of a staff team to meet children’s individual needs
Children and Families:
- To develop and maintain positive relationships with children and families
- To use skilful interaction strategies within teachable moments with children to extend their learning
- To assist with the planning and delivery of a wide range of opportunities to meet children’s needs
- To work within the EYFS Statutory Framework and Ofsted Early Years Inspection Framework and promote high standards of care for the children
- Personal care such as nappy changes are all staff members responsibilities
- If applicable, to assume responsibility for key children and ensure their developmental needs are met, accurately recorded, and learning diaries are kept up to date
- To maintain a child-centred environment by observing and reviewing resources and room lay out with the team. Displays are kept relevant to children and families’ interests
- To use observation and reflective practice to contribute to planning and evaluation in the setting, using the development plan
- To always maintain the children’s safety and wellbeing during attendance at the setting and on trips
- To take any action required to ensure the safety and welfare of children and to report any concern immediately to the Manager or safeguarding leader
- To ensure good communication between staff and parent’s/carers
Staff:
- To work as a positive role model and member of the staff team
- To attend staff meetings, supervision and appraisals and relevant identified training
General:
- To always work within policies and procedures and support staff to adhere to them
- To keep records as required
- To contribute to any quality assurance programmes such as Bristol Standard or Early Years Nutrition Partnership
- To maintain positive working relationships with relevant internal and external professionals
- To support and develop an environment which is inclusive for all and recognises and encourages diversity
- To always represent the setting professionally, maintaining the settings integrity and being open to both giving and receiving feedback
- To undertake any other duties as reasonably directed by the Management team
- To take part in supervisions, reflecting on your own well-being and mental health and to seek support from management when required
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard:
- This Apprenticeship is completed within the workplace. You will be assessed through written work, verbal discussion and observation throughout your training
- You will be given time by your employer to complete portfolio work, attend training, workplace shadowing and any other opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge
