What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional
  • Receiving, assisting and directing patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way
  • Offering general assistance to the practice team and projecting a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone
  • Taking messages and passing on information
  • Filing and retrieving paperwork
  • Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines
  • Computer data entry/data allocation and collation, processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures
  • Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare agencies and providers
  • Providing clerical assistance to clinicians as required, including word/data processing, filing, photocopying and scanning
  • Ordering, re-ordering and monitoring of stationery and other supplies
  • Dealing with clinical waste as and when received
  • Dealing with confidential waste as per practice procedures
  • Keeping the reception areas clean, tidy and free from obstructions and clutter
  • Safe and prompt handling of clinical deliveries in accordance with practice guidelines

Brookvale General Practice is a busy GP surgery. They pride themselves on patient care and aim to treat all their patients promptly, courteously and in complete confidence. They feel it is important you know who you are speaking to, all their practice staff wear a name badge and will identify themselves on the telephone. Brookvale Practice is a training practice. This means hospital doctors wanting to enter general practice spend up to 12 months with them in order to gain the experience they need to become family doctors, they also train 4th year medical students from Liverpool University.
