This varied role will initially involve preparation of VAT returns each month for a caseload of clients, assisting with personal tax returns and accounts preparation. As a practise with a diverse range of clients there is opportunity for exposure in lots of areas within accountancy. This role will develop as experience and qualifications progress.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Working with a range of clients means a broad scope of tasks, keeping the working days engaging. Tasks may involve but are not limited to;

  • Liaising with a caseload of clients for VAT deadlines and recordkeeping
  • Taking phone calls and assisting with general administration
  • Processing information such as sales invoices, purchase invoices and bank statements to produce a VAT return ready for review and then submitting through the appropriate software
  • Data entry for the purpose of accounts and tax returns
  • Using our client HMRC accounts to assist with general queries
  • Assisting with adhoc duties as appropriate

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in Worcester (WR4 9GN).

You will receive training one day per week which is a combination of face-to-face and remote, as per your assigned training plan.

Additional training for functional skills in English and maths will be undertaken if needed.

You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment to gain your Accounts/Finance Assistant Level 2.

There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Progression onto AAT levels 3 and 4.

The office is in the city centre with ample transport links, candidates should consider how they would travel to work and HWGTA. This vacancy could close sooner if a suitable candidate is found.
