Our Trust Accounts/Business Support Apprentice will undertake a wide variety of tasks to support the Trust’s centralised support services. We are in a position to be able to offer to support an apprentice to train and develop as part of the Accounts or Finance Assistant Apprenticeship. The apprentice will be able to provide effective and efficient business support to the Trust’s central team.

    £10,158.72

    After completion of first year progression on to scale 1 of the National Pay Scale for school support staff. This is currently £20,258 pa (with a national pay award pending).

What will the apprentice be doing?

Duties include:

Finance:

  • Support the trust’s finance department with catering, trip, nursery, and other trading accounts
  • Supporting the administration of the parent payment system, to ensure that information is available to the Trust’s finance team
  • To assist with the preparation of monies for banking where required
  • To assist with financial administration such as placing orders,
    invoicing, collecting monies, issuing receipts, etc
  • To support with the administration of petty cash and school fund accounts as required
  • To carry out all financial administration in accordance with
    appropriate LEA and school financial regulations and policies

Clerical:

  • To undertake typing and word processing for the trust central
    functions as required
  • Data Entry/administration of various trust management information systems
  • Maintaining the Trust’s register of policies and ensuring that policy managers are alerted to policy review dates
  • Updating trust-wide policies and procedures using templates as required by the CEO or CFOO
  • Updating information on the trust’s website and various other
    government portals
  • To undertake filing and organising the disposal of trust files (e.g HR/Finance) in accordance with data protection and records retention policies
  • Reprographics work as required and the basic maintenance of the photocopier
  • To maintain the Trust’s central diary
  • Support senior trust leaders with diary maintenance as required
  • Take notes at meetings as required
  • To be responsible for the sorting and distributing of incoming post into the trust office and the sending of outgoing post, including the purchase of stamps
  • Monitoring and maintenance of the trust’s stationery stock and order supplies as necessary
  • To provide general clerical support as required

General:

  • To be the first point of contact for telephone and face to face
    enquiries to the trust central office and take messages where
    appropriate
  • To ensure school & trust security arrangements are always complied with, including the issue of visitor’s badges and signing of the visitor’s book
  • To accept and sign for deliveries to the trust office as appropriate
  • To provide hospitality for visitors to the trust
  • To hold health and safety responsibilities including Fire Warden and/or First Aid if required
  • To participate in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for identification of learning, development and training opportunities in discussion with line manager
  • To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health and safety in the workplace
  • Ensure that all duties and services provided are in accordance with the School’s Equal Opportunities Policy

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Accounts or Finance Assistant Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting
  • All delivered within the workplace via online training and at Colchester Institute Campus
  • College attendance required once very two weeks

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

This is a temporary apprenticeship position, however upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the apprentice may be considered for any permanent opportunities across the trust and its school.

Things to consider

The Trust Board is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. The position is based in a primary school therefore there will be regular interaction with children. The apprentice will need to understand and support the differences in children/adults and respond appropriately in relation to the role. They will need an understanding of the learning experience provided by the school, the way in which children develop, and the importance of physical and emotional wellbeing.
