What will the apprentice be doing?

Day to day the apprentice will be assisting the Pre-press team in supporting the wider business.

Duties will include:

Pre-press:

  • Card design meetings with account managers and clients
  • Creating artwork for cards and associated stationery, packaging, carriers, envelopes etc.
  • Proofing and suppling visuals for clients
  • Working with external suppliers to receive quotations and placing orders for stationery
  • Submitting card designs for approval to Mastercard and Visa
  • Engineering of print ready files for manufacturing along with generation of job bags and stock orders

 

Lithographic

  • Printing of Smart Cards as per specifications and production proof ensuring that job meets Card Quality Management requirements
  • Plan Daily Print production in line with production schedule and delivery date, ensuring best set up process to ensure the most efficient set up whilst ensuring SLA’s are met
  • Responsible for housekeeping of the Lithographic print area and imaging area in line with Health and Safety requirements and lean manufacturing
  • Ensuring quality standards within print production to include the creation, recording, archiving and management of master sheets

 

Screen Printing

  • Printing of Smart Cards as per specifications and proof
  • Preparation of screens – including imaging
  • Ensuring quality standards for production and records of Masters
  • Creating and managing a sample library to include ink codes, suppliers, mesh counts, printing speeds
  • Ensuring waste ink is correctly disposed of, in line with Health and Safety and Environmental procedures

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • As part of this role, you will be working towards achieving Level 2 Print Operative qualification
  • This will give you the foundations to start your career in print, and on completion you will be confident in assisting in the production of a printed product or component
  • To deliver the training we have partnered with BPIF Training, and the course is delivered over two years
  • The majority of training will be delivered onsite in our Hereford Office, but please note occasional travel to Coventry for training may be required

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

This is a permanent role and depending on your chosen route, you will be working towards becoming assistant pre-press technician, or assistant print technician at the end of the apprenticeship.
