What will the apprentice be doing?
This apprenticeship provides a fantastic introduction into the world of finance. We will provide you with a rotation through the different functions within our finance team across the Churchill group of companies. Activities within the role include:
- Assisting the Payroll Officer with payroll related administration.
- Processing cash book transactions for The Churchill Foundation.
- Processing sales ledger transactions for non CRL and CEM Group companies.
- Assist with the processing of purchase ledger transactions for non CRL and CEM Group companies.
- Additional accounts department responsibilities.
- Running Pension Auto Enrolment correspondence.
- Assist with the production of HMRC quarterly and annual returns to include P46 Cars and P11Ds.
- Preparing BACS and cheque payments.
- Banking and posting of any cheque receipts.
- Completing weekly and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Raise sales ledger invoices as and when required.
- Produce monthly reviews of all sales ledger accounts to ensure that outstanding debts are chased and paid within standard terms and conditions.
- Assist with inputting purchase ledger invoices onto finance system ensuring they are authorised in line with the authorisation policy.
- Assist with preparing payment runs both on Finance and BACS systems.
- Reviewing month end purchase ledger reports to ensure any queries are resolved and payments correctly allocated.
- To liaise with external parties as required for the proper performance of your duties.
- Production of reports and information to other colleagues within the department to assist in the preparation of management accounts and other financial reports.

Accounts/Finance Assistant Apprenticeship Level 2 - AAT
This apprenticeship is a perfect match for someone without any accountancy or bookkeeping knowledge. On this programme they will learn the building blocks of the modern accountant. Not only will they grasp the fundamentals of bookkeeping but we will help them develop those vital skills and behaviours to enable them to put their knowledge into action.
If you’re new to accountancy and finance, looking to change your career into accountancy or have previously worked in an accounts department this level is ideal for you. You don’t need any prior experience working in accounts to study AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting. There are no entry requirements, but you do need good maths, IT and English skills, and a willingness to learn.
You’ll learn a broad range of core accounting skills, including double-entry bookkeeping and basic costing as well as accountancy related business skills and personal skills. You must successfully complete the following:
- Introduction to Bookkeeping (ITBK)
- Principles of Bookkeeping Control (POBC)
- Principles of Costing (PCTN)
- Business Environment (BESY)
You will also be required to complete an End Point Assessment (EPA), which will include a synoptic assessment and interview with supporting portfolio.
Training will be provided by attending either face-to-face classroom based lessons or Live Online. An apprenticeship has to be relevant to the job you are undertaking and you must dedicate 20% of your time towards it.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
We have a track record of taking on apprentices and continuing their career development with further qualifications on completion.
On successful completion of the AAT level 2 there will be the opportunity to progress onto the Level 3, and beyond.
