What will the apprentice be doing?

Full training will be given.

The role involves:

  • Pump repairs and assessment in the workshop
  • Pump repairs on site
  • Pumps and pump system installations
  • Fault finding on pumping systems on site
  • Electrical work involving pump motors, inverters and control panels
  • Plumbing work involving pump installs and system fault finding
  • Turning and milling parts for the pump repairs in the workshop
  • Welding and use of machines and power tools for fabricating frames and refurbishments of existing equipment
  • Attend college 1 day a week

Qualifications included:

  • Maintenance Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard. Company Training Plan & Assessment
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge (1 day per week for 2 years at college)
    Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance (workplace)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills - maths (if required)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills - English (if required)
  • End Point Assessment at the end of the apprenticeship

Things to consider

There may be some outside working in all weathers, but it is unlikely to be frequent. There are opportunities to do overtime by starting early, finishing late or working on weekends. As well as working on boosted potable water, heating and cooling, bore hole systems and pools, we also work on sewage systems. Successful candidates will need to be aware and willing to work on raw sewage pumps.
