The Finance Assistant Apprenticeship at Malvern Panalytical offers a structured rotational programme across the Finance department, enabling you to gain hands-on experience across a broad range of functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Financial Reporting and Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A). As a Finance Assistant Apprentice, you will work towards formal apprenticeship qualifications whilst making a valuable contribution to our business under the guidance of experienced mentors, line managers and tutors.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Reporting to Finance Business Partner, you will be paired with an experienced mentor for the duration of the apprenticeship, while line management will switch to the relevant host department as the programme progresses. As an apprentice with us, you will develop the valuable knowledge, skills, expertise and work habits you need to excel and succeed in your Finance career.
Responsibilities include:
Accounts Payable
- Invoiced processing using an integrated OCR software
- Reviewing & resolving exceptions
- Completing vendor statement reconciliations
- Preparation of bank detail verifications
- Employee expense accounts
Accounts Receivable
- Preparation and completion of credit checks for new and existing customers
- Reviewing risk to the business regarding credit value requests
- Cash postings
- Customer account reviews
- Credit control
- PO investigation
Financial Control
- Preparation of monthly and annual management accounts
- Responsible for reconciliations and periodic reporting
- Ensuring statutory and compliance requirements are adhered to
- Analysis of financials to understand all aspects of the business
- Providing insight and guidance across the business relating to processes and controls
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Enabling effective forecasting and reporting across the business
- Supporting the budget, strategic reviews and quarterly re-forecasting processes
- Analysis of operations and investigation into variances
- Building knowledge of analysis into future forecast projections
- Providing analysis to support finance business partners, executive management team and the business owners
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Level 2 Accounts or Finance Assistant Apprenticeship Standard.
- Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in Worcester (WR4 9GN)
- You will receive training one day per week which is a combination of face-to-face and remote, as per your assigned training plan
- Additional training for functional skills in English and Maths will be undertaken if needed
You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment to gain your
- AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting
- Level 2 Accounts/Finance Assistant Apprenticeship (for level 2 applicants)
- AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting and Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship qualification (for level 3 applicants).
There is also a five-day team-building residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Potential to continue with further professional finance qualifications such as CIMA, ACCA.
