What will the apprentice be doing?
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Act as key person to children and their families, giving emotional support and advice
- Liaise closely with parents/carers informing them about the routines and educational provision
- Exchange information with key families about their child’s progress
- Work with the team to plan and deliver a stimulating curriculum to ensure that each child reaches their full potential
- Observe, record and assess children’s learning and development
- Help set up and tidy away activities
- Take care of basic needs such as feeding and nappy changing
- Keep the nursery environment, equipment and resources clean and tidy at all times with due regard to health, safety and hygiene
- Contribute to your own personal safety and keep children at all times safe and secure
- Contribute to risk assessments and daily checks. Inform the manager of any issues regarding the safety of equipment
- Have full knowledge of, and adhere to, fire drill procedures
- Advise the Nominated Safeguarding Person of any concerns, preserving confidentiality at all times
- Adhere to equal opportunities, ensuring each child’s individual needs are recognised, respected, and met
- Contribute to and implement all policies and procedures
- Work as part of a team and attend staff meetings
- Keep up to date with good nursery practice, including attendance at workshops and training courses
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Over the course of 15 – 18 months (dependent upon the level of course an apprentice is being enrolled onto), you will study units such as health & safety in a childcare setting, holistic child development, safeguarding in a childcare setting, child development, communication with children, purposeful play and educational programmes, supporting children with special educational needs, collaborative working in early years childcare, wellbeing principles for children and at higher levels, child protection, data, supporting key life transitions and behaviour management (these modules may differ).
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship programme, you will achieve a Level 2 qualification and a TQUK Diploma in Early Years.
