What will the apprentice be doing?

Main Duties

1.          To maintain an environment and programme of activities suitable to the age range of children in your area.

2.          To use the My Montessori Child digital system to observe and record children’s activities in line with the Montessori curriculum and EYFS.

3.          Work alongside parents of special needs children to give full integration in the Nursery.

4.          Support all other staff and engage fully in the staff team.

5.          Liaise with and support parents and other family members, including maintaining a dialogue with parents through the MMC reporting system.

6.          Carry out parent conferences at Parents Evening and any such other time as is necessary.

7.          To attend ALL out of working hours activities, e.g. training, staff and curriculum planning meetings, In Service days, network meetings, parents’ evenings, Summer picnic, Christmas party, etc.

8.          To be flexible within the working practices of the nursery and follow all lawful and reasonable instructions from a more senior member of staff. Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment & areas of the Nursery etc.

9.          Work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy and the ethos of the Nursery is maintained.

10.      Record accidents, incidents, sickness, health & safety issues appropriately on MMC and inform a manager.

11.      Look upon the nursery as a "whole" where can your help be most utilised, be constantly aware of the needs of children.

12.      Ensure each child is collected by someone known to nursery who has been authorised by the parents.

13.      To respect the confidentiality of information received.

14.      To develop your role within the team especially in relation to your role as a key worker taking responsibility for ensuring the needs of your key children are made clear to your colleagues.

 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will be supported by an Apprentice Trainer at City of Bristol College to achieve the Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship. Alongside the trainer, you will build a portfolio of knowledge, skills and behaviours ready to undertake the end point assessment at the end of the apprenticeship. You will be required to achieve an Early Years Educator Level 3 qualification at the end of the course.

This apprenticeship is supported within the work place, and so you will spend at least 20% of your time in off the job training. This could include your own research and self-study, work shadowing, and company training. There may be some time required in College for any exams.

Some students may be required to study towards their Functional Skills maths and English qualification.

Paediatric First aid qualification.
