What will the apprentice be doing?

Your apprenticeship will last 3 years and will look like this:

  • In Year 1 you will undertake basic tasks such as inspecting plant machinery with your line manager guiding you through this. You will attend Reaseheath College in the north-west of England on block release for a total of 9 weeks staying away from home.
  • In Year 2 you will build upon what you learnt in Year 1. You will diagnose faults and repair and service plant machinery. During Year 2 you will attend college for 9 weeks, requiring you to stay away from home.
  • Year 3 will see you have more responsibility where you will advise on repairs to plant machinery returned by customers. You will be able to diagnose complex faults with plant machinery. During Year 3 you will attend college for 9 weeks, requiring you to stay away from home.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Land-based service engineering technician Level 3
  • Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end point assessment


The qualification the apprentice will achieve at the end is an advanced level 3 apprenticeship. Within this apprenticeship you will be given the opportunity to build a solid foundation of technical knowledge and gain real life experience. You’ll combine on-the-job training with practical lessons at college, where our specialist staff will teach you in our fully equipped workshops.

The apprenticeship will be at Reaseheath College and will last 3 years. This will be 9 weeks in college per year, delivered in 3 x 3 week block release courses, at Reaseheath College, Nantwich.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • After their apprenticeship they will become service engineers.
