What will the apprentice be doing?

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the environment is kept safe for children, staff and others.
  • Develop partnerships with parents/carers to increase involvement in their child’s development once deemed competent and confident.
  • You are to be responsible for any tasks delegated by the Deputy Nursery Manager/Nursery Manager.
  • Complete all academic aspects of the Apprenticeship in line with your expected target dates.
  • You will be assigned ‘study time’ whilst, in the Nursery, we will support you in any way we can.
  • To provide a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors, at all times.
  • Deliver an appropriate play-based Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum that enables children to make individual progress.
  • To help ensure we meet the requirements of Ofsted requirements at all times.
  • Understand and work to nursery policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies.
  • Plan activities which ensure each child is working towards the early learning outcomes.
  • To work towards becoming a key person.
  • Ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. Daily attendance register, accident and incident book, risk assessments.
  • Liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the nursery and its curriculum, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement - once you are deemed capable.
  • Attend Staff Meetings held out of hours and Professional Development Training Sessions, to complete training updates when requested.
  • Attend regular Staff Supervision - one-to-one.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed in accordance with our aims and objectives.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Level 3 Early Years Educator at Stockton Riverside College.
  • Functional Skills Maths and English, if required.
  • First aid qualification.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

An opportunity for a full-time position at the end of the apprenticeship.
