What will the apprentice be doing?
- Gain mentorship and knowledge from more experienced members of the team.
- Learn the operation, maintenance, and data analysis associated with measurement equipment.
- Analyse data for a variety of practical design and manufacturing outputs.
- Develop reports to communicate analysis outputs to colleagues and clients.
- Develop an understanding of sound and how it behaves in buildings and the environment.
- Collaborate with a wide variety of professionals in the field to develop holistic outcomes using the knowledge you will accumulate.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Level 4 Acoustics Technician Certificate.
London South Bank University.
20% working week plus assignments and attended laboratories in London.
Day release (1 day per week).
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
The course will prepare apprentice engineers to perform in their companies and potentially for careers of working in a broad range of specialist consultancies, engineering companies, construction and transport companies, government agencies, local authorities, infrastructure consortiums, manufacturing firms and other organisations closely related to acoustic engineering for its applications in a wide range of industries.
Job titles could be for example:
- Environmental Health Officer Junior Acoustic Consultant.
- Junior Engineering Consultant.
- Health and Safety Assistant.
The course plus the EPA offers the possibility to go on to the Institute of Acoustics Diploma (run by LSBU as a Level 6 course). Completion of which would also allow the student to join the Masters’ in Environmental and Architectural Acoustics at an advanced level.
