What will the apprentice be doing?
The successful candidate will:
- Be a reliable member of a team, working co-operatively and with flexibility
- Observe each child’s progress and report on achievements, looking for progression and continuity
- Develop excellent communications with parents/carers, encouraging them to participate in their child’s progress and development
- Supervise children at play (indoor and outdoor) and at mealtimes
- Assist with planning a programme of activities, suitable for the age range of the children
- Assist with the creation of a stimulating and attractive environment
- Attend parents’ meetings and open days as required
- Assist with the care, maintenance and security of all equipment and toys within the pre-school
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required
- Participate in all self-development activities, including appraisals, etc.
- Develop positive relationships with other staff working within the pre-school
- Undertake a shared responsibility for health, safety and cleanliness throughout the pre-school
- Ensure the general cleanliness of the children at all times
- Be familiar with all emergency and security procedures, e.g. fire procedures, routines for dropping off and collecting children
- Adhere to all policies and procedures including attendance at meetings, preparation of reports and any other duties as required e.g. Risk Assessments
- Ensure the Equal Opportunities Policy is adhered to at all times
- Assist in maintaining minimum national standards for day care

- English and maths qualifications form a mandatory part of all apprenticeships and must be completed before an apprentice can pass through gateway
