    National minimum wage guaranteed, but wages will be paid according to experience. Incremental increases possible dependant of successful performance reviews. Initial review will be after 3 months. You will receive a share of gratuities.

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Prepare, cook and finish complex dishes while overseeing a section of the kitchen.
  • Supervise other staff members and deputise for senior chefs.
  • Assist with the review and refresh of new dishes and menus.
  • Ensure the team and themselves maintain high standards of personal, and food hygiene.
  • Oversee and monitor the quality and safety of food.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • A Level 3 Chef de Partie qualification will be achieved upon completion.
  • Training will take place one day a week at Strode College.
  • Strode College will be managing the applications for this post.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We are looking to recruit a long term employee that will grow with the business.

There is a bus stop outside the pub, but as it is a rural location, please consider transport to and from work.

About the employer

The George Inn is our award-winning 17th century freehouse in the scenic village of Croscombe, Somerset. The pub is directly on the A371 equidistant between the market town of Shepton Mallet and England’s smallest city, Wells. There are many delightful walks from the pub and dogs are welcome too. The George Inn - renowned for real ale, great food, comfortable rooms and a friendly welcome Front view of The George Inn, near Wells and Shepton Mallet Somerset. Purchased by us in July 2000, we’ve enjoyed making many changes to the pub. In the main bar we built a large inglenook fireplace with real log fires to warm the winter days, and soft lighting, the family’s grandfather clock and our comfy chairs add to the ambience of the area.
