What will the apprentice be doing?
What are we looking for?
We are currently looking for an apprentice Formworker working on sites around Cambridge.
What is Formwork?
Formwork is the process of producing temporary or permanent moulds and shuttering from timber for concrete to be poured into, which allows the concrete to be formed to the correct dimensions and to support it until it can support itself.
Formwork is used in the entire infrastructure, from constructing roads, rail, bridges and underground structures to high-rise concrete buildings. A formworker contributes to the construction of projects through the preparation, installation and quality management of all stages of the formwork process. As an apprentice, you’ll train in the preparation of falsework (providing temporary support structures for forms) and also undertake formwork.
What will your typical day look like?
- Forming timber to the correct requirements and shape or cutting materials to specified measurements.
- Using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
- Interpreting plands and drawings.
- Building, repairing and maintaining formworks and falsework structures.
- Assembling and fastening materials to make framework, falsework or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails or pins.
- Following established safety rules and regulations and maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
- Interpreting verbal and written instructions and information.
- Working safely at heights
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Formal training will be by means of regular block release sessions throughout the apprenticeship.
The apprentice will work towards a level 2 Formworker qualification.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
On successful completion of the apprenticeship there will be the opportunity to move into full time employment.
