The Milling Barn is a wedding and events venue that delivers bespoke menus throughout the year. Our food is all chef prepared and using fresh and quality ingredients. Each event will require a sit down meal, an evening feast from our outdoor ‘shack’ and then a cooked breakfast the day after the event for overnight guests.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Under the supervision & guidance from the Head & Sous Chef the successful candidate will gain experience in all areas of food production & service. We will prepare them for life in a professional kitchen and show them how each department works and how each cog fits into the overall wheel. At the end of your time, you will be confident and capable to work on your own, with the end goal to deliver an event from start to finish.

Tasks include;

  • Prepping food 
  • Cooking and plating food for service
  • Working within the kitchen undertaking other tasks relevant to the role
  • Helping with stock and orders

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

At the end of the apprenticeship, the candidate will have achieved the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the level 2 Commis Chef standard.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We would expect the apprentice to be a confident Commis Chef in most kitchens, and with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn to reach CDP within a year. If successful and enjoying your time with us we would be looking to offer a successful candidates a full time position, with the aim to develop their skills further and progress their career to a Sous Chef & as opportunity arises to Head Chef position.

Things to consider

The job will involve you working at weekends and evenings, and your shifts will be varied. However, we will post your shifts in advance so you will be able to plan your time outside of work.
