What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Operating all areas of the cocoa plant
  • Using operating systems
  • Completing daily operator tasks
  • Dispatching liquor including tanker loading
  • Working in a safe way
  • LOTOTO (lock out, tag out, try out)
  • Supporting the creation of risk assessments
  • Ensuring our products are food safe
  • Understanding and adhering the HACCP
  • Clean as you go, good housekeeping standards

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The apprentice will undertake the Level 3 Food and Drink Technical Operator apprenticeship standard, delivered by the University of Lincoln's Holbeach Campus, the National Centre for Food Manufacturing (NCFM). The apprentice will attend block release sessions virtually via Microsoft Teams or in person at the NCFM campus throughout the duration of the programme.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

There are some fantastic opportunities across Cargill. Natural progression after the apprenticeship could be to become a Process Operating Technician if a role is available. This follows a 4 on 4 off shift pattern (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off). There may also be opportunities to move into other functions dependent on role availability.

Things to consider

This is a fast-paced working environment. The role is relatively physical and will involve responsibilities such as: • Daily and weekly cleaning tasks • Stairs in all areas of the plant • Operational tasks The plant is hot due to the nature of our product (over 30 degrees). The role is predominantly site based but you may have the opportunity to visit other sites.

We are supplied with cocoa beans which we then process and turn into cocoa liquor.
