What will the apprentice be doing?

We’re looking for an enthusiastic chef to hit the ground running to deliver our current menu with the potential to eventually evolve and own the creation and delivery of a new menu to complement the Taprooms atmosphere.

This would be a great opportunity for an individual ready to develop a career within the industry and work with a progressive management team to deliver an exciting experience. 

With close mentoring support, to develop skills and experience through practical work and formal study to qualify as a chef.

 

Duties include:

  • Quality and consistent food preparation to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Adhering to the company’s Food Safety, Hygiene, and Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Prepare, cook and present dishes, according to specification.
  • Assist others in the kitchen in the production and service of food and the cleaning down as and when required.
  • Ensure good hygiene, health and safety in the kitchen.
  • Be able to multitask and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Completing daily cleaning schedules.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The practical period is the time dedicated to the development of the knowledge, skills and behaviours for your apprenticeship which includes the following components;

• Production Chef Level 2 Standard - Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours.

• Level 2 Award in Food Safety

• Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English (exemptions apply)

 

To attend college workshops for 1-day release during term-time.

The apprentice would be assigned an assessor through the college, who would typically come out to visit in the workplace to assess workplace competence.

The knowledge side would be provided via an online portal VLE (Virtual Learning Environment), and assignments/ evidence of work/ portfolio would be checked via an online Smart Assessor.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

A continued career at the Taproom has the potential to lead and work towards head chef with the creation and development of seasonal menus and managing a team of kitchen staff.

Uniform is provided. The workplace venue is located in the town centre of St Ives access to public transport.

Located in the beautiful heart of historic St Ives, The Taproom is a café bar with a relaxed atmosphere and bright and friendly working environment. We deliver on average 700 covers a week. We adjust our menu approx. every 6 weeks and as mentioned above, we’re open for it to evolve with the right person and ideas.
