What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Attend FM and building committee meetings, taking notes/actions for follow-up
  • Maintain accurate document files through uploading current certificates and reports
  • Support internal compliance reporting, including reporting to the commercial and retail tenants, as well as reporting to the real estate management company
  • Maintain an updated log of building fire wardens and first-aiders, highlighting gaps and amending, when necessary
  • Additionally, act as one of the building’s designated fire wardens and first-aiders, when required
  • Assist with health and safety reporting and training within the building
  • Carry out routine FM checks of the whole building (e.g. fire doors, roof checks, etc. via lifts and stair flights) on a daily/weekly basis, as required (note: the building has 8 floors, as well as a basement)
  • Act as the first response to fault reports from building tenants and escalate issues to the relevant personnel
  • Supervise visiting contractors as they carry out their duties across the building, when required
  • Have basic IT skills and engage successfully with the building’s smart functionalities (training for specific systems will be provided)
  • Shadow and assist the 1st floor Client Services Manager to develop an understanding of the meeting room scheduling and set-up process, to be able to proactively assist, when required, with meeting room configuration and catering organisation
  • Provide support for furniture re-configuration for events in the 8th floor pavilion space, e.g. stacking chairs, transporting wheeled tables within the space as well as to and from the storage space in the basement
  • Be responsible for the upkeep of the non-plant basement spaces (i.e. the bike storage areas), ensuring the removal of litter and flagging issues to the Building Manager, if necessary
  • Be responsible for monitoring the general upkeep of the basement refuse facilities (i.e. bin storage units, compactor), escalating issues to the Building Manager or relevant personnel as needed
  • Monitor the loading bay area, ensuring it is free from debris/leaves to allow for effective delivery operations
  • Assist the security team with bike and pedestrian management in the loading bay area during busy periods at the rear of the building, or as necessary
  • Assist with mail room services and relevant machines, including the coordination and transportation of large deliveries up to commercial tenant floors

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Following successful completion of the apprenticeship, the candidate will possess the necessary knowledge, functional skills and familiarity with the building and Building Team to potentially embark on a related, higher-level apprenticeship (e.g. L3 Facilities Management Supervisor).

This would be advancing on their original apprenticeship through enhanced supervisory and management responsibilities, continuing to expose the apprentice to facilities and services management.
