We are looking for a highly motivated apprentice who will become part of our busy and fast paced Finance/HR Office. They will support the Finance and HR teams in providing an efficient and streamlined service to our colleagues in Homecare or Charitable Services, which includes input to all HR admin and Finance.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Finance Responsibilities:

  • Support other finance team members with routine tasks such as data entry into accounting systems such as Xero, raising purchase orders, logging invoices, timesheets and expenses, carrying out the weekly bank reconciliation and preparation of cash and banking sheets;
  • Answering simple queries from our shared mailboxes and phone calls from colleagues, customers or suppliers;
  • Scanning, shredding, archiving and other similar admin duties;
  • On the job training and coaching for all tasks will be provided

HR Responsibilities:

  • Provide admin support to the HR team.
  • Provide prompt and relevant support to business customers
  • Maintain accurate information.
  • Reply to correspondence as required.
  • Maintain all Human Resources procedures
  • Establish positive relationships with office and care staff.
  • Maintain high expectations at all times
  • Attend training sessions as appropriate.
  • Maintain paperwork and computer systems.
  • Maintain all employee records accurately and efficiently.
  • Inputting data into the staff database, including new starters’ details.
  • Filing, photocopying, shredding, dealing with the incoming and outgoing post, and other general admin functions.
  • Producing letters and other HR related correspondence
  • Assist in maintenance of all systems, both computerised and paper based.
  • Support the HR Team with the DBS application process including overseeing on a daily basis DBS requests, DBS applications including ID checks, maintaining the database and dealing with related queries.
  • Reply to correspondence.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality.
  • Maintain an awareness of HR best practice at all times.
  • Promote the caring and professional ethos of AUKN.
  • The duties listed above are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the post holder may be required by the HR/Finance Team to carry out appropriate duties within the context of the job, skills and grade.

Things to consider

The vacancy is in a busy office environment with vulnerable adults often attending the building. The candidate will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Over the course of the apprenticeship the candidate will become more responsible for taking on more responsibility within the department.

Age UK Northumberland is a local independent charity, based at the Round House, Ashington, which provides services for older adults throughout the County of Northumberland. Our central service is free information, advice and advocacy. Other services are designed to meet local needs and currently include: personal care, exercise and falls prevention classes, befriending, lunch clubs and day centres.
