What will the apprentice be doing?

The apprentice will provide an efficient and effective administrative and customer services support to Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in one of the 12 administration Hubs. Like all Trust colleagues, they will be required to follow all policies and procedures.

Duties will include communicate effectively with staff, patients and other departments, answering telephones, data input, producing documents, filing and archiving.

Working days will be generally Mon-Friday during office hours with the potential for further weekend work once skills and confidence grows.

The following are examples of the duties the apprentices may undertake. Training and support will be provided;

  • Provides a comprehensive customer service and administration support to include receiving and dealing with telephone calls, emails, and other communications
  • The accurate production, editing of, and storing of documents (i.e., letters to patients and GPs) using appropriate electronic systems (such as audio typing)
  • Ensures that all departmental electronic and paper records are correct and up-to date, including accurate filing of general documentation and results
  • Opening, sorting, distribution and dispatch of post
  • Use of all Trust information and computer systems for day to day processes e.g. emails to receive and pass on information, tracking documentation and notes
  • Undertakes general office duties

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The successful candidate will work towards the Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner apprenticeship standard as well as complete and have recorded on their learning record all required statutory and mandatory learning required in the NHS today (health and safety, fire, safeguarding etc). The learning will take place mainly onsite in the workplace but with attendance on a weekly basis at the learning provider (Goulton Street, off Hessle Road, Hull). 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Ideally, we wish for the candidate to apply for one of our permanent position within the Trust upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.

Things to consider

This apprenticeship supports services across both main sites at the Trust, both at Castle Hill Hospital and Hull Royal Infirmary. A free bus between the site is available for staff to use with their ID badge
