The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Intermediate Level Apprenticeship
Independent Training College have just secured the fantastic opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic Customer Service/Service Engineer Apprentice to join the rapidly growing team at copier systems, based in the Darton area of Barnsley.
The apprentice will be responsible for a range of customer service and service engineering duties while working towards a selection of mandatory and optional customer service qualification units and will be in a position to learn about this exciting sector first-hand, alongside industry professionals.
This apprenticeship offers the unique opportunity to gain insight into both the Customer Services and Engineering sectors, and will feature an accredited Customer Services qualification alongside employer based, internal engineering training.
General Duties and Qualification Units are to Include:
- Providing technical support to customers both over the telephone and remotely
- Liaising with suppliers in regards to warranties and faults
- Liaising with the client companies IT depertment
- Understanding the benefits of various printing solutions in order to inform and advise customers
- Maintaining a positive and professional customer services impression
- Performing workshop repairs and refurbishments when needed
- Setting up new equipment and performing installations
- Qualification Unit -Following rules to deliver customer service
- Qualification Unit -Maintaining a positive and customer friendly attitude
- Qualification Unit -Adapting behaviour to make a good customer service impression
- Qualification Unit -Promoting additional products and services to customers
Full training will be provided both by the employer and Independent Training College.

Things to consider
About the employer
The successful candidate will work towards their full intermediate diploma level 2 in Customer Services. All training will be delivered entirely at the place of work, both on and off the job by Independent Training College. The apprenticeship framework includes functional skills qualifications in maths and english when needed.
