As the salon apprentice your role will encompass all areas of the salon. You will answer phones, book in clients, meet and greet clients in reception. You will make sure every element of the clients experience is met. As a hairdressing apprentice, you will be responsible for making sure the salon is kept clean and tidy at all times. You will sweep up hair, polish mirrors and make sure all shelves are clean and fully stocked. You role will develop through shadowing and learning from the more senior stylists, washing and conditioning hair and learning the various blow-drying technics, moving on to learn about colour, by starting to mix up and prepare colour to assist the stylists with the application of colour. As you develop skills you will start learning basic cutting technics.

As your skills develop you will learn techniques including application of colour, styling and eventually cutting. Hours will include Saturdays and one evening a week.

No experience necessary, but friendly and enthusiastic attitude is essential along with a desire to work in Hairdressing.

Personal qualities

Candidates must be reliable, punctual, hardworking, presentable and creative.

Qualifications required

You will have Maths and/or English A-C (9-4) GCSEs or equvialent. The other will be no lower than a D (3)

Future prospects

To become a fully qualified stylist and eventually lead onto management.

Things to consider

From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.

About the employer

The BHF group is one of the oldest and largest privately owned hairdressing groups in Southern England. We now have five salons, one in Weybridge plus salons in Addlestone, Hersham, Molesey and Hampton Court. BHF Weybridge is the flagship of the company and Andrew Nash, the managing director of the company is a very talented hairdresser and is based there. Andrew is also an expert in hair extensions and has trained all of the other salons personally to his high standards ensuring the brand image is upheld across Surrey.
