Assist with day-to-day food preparation operations in the kitchen. This will include, but is not limited to:

  • Routine food preparation
  • Kitchen equipment cleaning
  • Maintenance of and cleaning after food and drinks service

Assist and support food service operations for effective catering food and drinks provision. This will include:

  • Ensuring that residents are served politely, efficiently and that the dining area is prepared and maintained in good order
  • Maintain high quality food service and preparation standards
  • Contribute to menu planning and development
  • Assist the Chef to ensure cost control and cost-effectiveness whilst maintaining high quality standards
  • Assist with other general catering functions as occasionally required.

Qualifications required

No specific entry requirement as support will be given on programme. Good secondary education is preferred.

Future prospects

Availability to progress onto Level 3 Food Production and Cookery Apprenticeship. Options to progress onto a full time position at the company on completion of the Apprenticeship.

Things to consider

The kitchen can be potentially a dangerous working environment the applicant needs to be able to act in a safe and responsible manner, follow all safety procedures that are in place. Unsociable hours, working environment can be uncomfortably hot and very busy at times. Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): From 1st April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. For more information visit:
