The duties will include carrying out jobs at the beginning of the working day to ensure the salon is ready for customers.

  • They will be expected to greet customers upon arrival and seat them at a working station if the stylist is busy.
  • After demonstrations and practicing they will eventually be expected to carry out shampooing services, and later after training rinsing colours and neutralising perms.
  • They will be taught correct PPE usage and must carry out safe work practices at all times.
  • They will be expected to dispose of hazardous substances appropriately and keep the workplace clean and tidy to reduce risks of accidents.
  • They will be shown how to answer the telephone in a professional manner and they will be expected to book appointments efficiently.
  • At the end of the day they will be relied upon to make the salon ready for the next day.

Things to consider

Long periods of standing. No train station nearby so will need to travel by bus if using public transport or lifts from family members and must consider some early starts and late finishes. Will be working with elderly people From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
