    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

An Apprenticeship is a work-based training programme. It provides the learner with practical skills through on-the-job training combined with theoretical knowledge through off-the-job learning.

We are looking to employ an Apprentice Body Repair candidate who will work and train towards carrying out body repair work on modern vehicles, ensuring all work is of the highest quality.

Tasks and training that you will be involved with will include:

  • Panel beating.
  • Chassis & body component replacement.
  • Welding.
  • Chassis jig alignment.
  • Assisting colleagues.

Whilst in your apprenticeship you will be allocated a mentor in the workplace who will support and guide you in your training. You will also attend Bridgwater College on a block release programme during the duration of the Apprenticeship which lasts 2 years.

Future prospects

Working with the Marshall Group as valid member of staff. Progression to Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Things to consider

From April 1st 2017 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the National Minimum Wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training. Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by Government. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution.

You will attend the Automotive Centre at Bridgwater & Taunton College on a block release basis to study for:

  • A Technical Certificate (VRQ): provides the essential knowledge to do the job.
  • Functional Skills: develops the literacy, numeracy and IT skills needed in the modern workplace.

You will also undertake an VCQ at your workplace. This involves building a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate that you can do your job to a nationally recognised standard.
