Wages explained
The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

This is an exciting opportunity for an apprentice to undertaking an engineering apprenticeship, working for Motorsport and Automotive sectors within HCI Systems Ltd as a Wiring Engineering Technician.

 

As part of the role you will be expected to (during and after training);

  • Manufacture Wiring Harnesses in our Production department for our Automotive, Motorsport and Defence customers achieving our time and quality targets
  • Represent HCI Systems on customer sites, working with them to manufacture the perfect electrical system and wiring harness solution
  • Test the system and work with the customer to commission the system on site
  • Attend circuits to offer track support when required.

Qualifications required

To apply for this position, you will need:

To have at least 3 GCSE’s at grade E or above (or equivalent Level 1 qualifications) including Maths, English and a Science/Technology

Future prospects

As the Apprenticeship continues, the apprentice will be expected to master the ability to manufacture the wiring harnesses in Automotive and Motorsport environments. Once the apprenticeship is complete, the technician will have the necessary skills to build complex wiring harnesses, depending on where the technician’s interest takes them; they could move into learning the design function and could be given the chance to move into a senior position. The technician will also be competent at assisting / supporting new technicians in a role of senior technician. The technician will also have skills to move into a motor-sport teams as prestige as Formula 1, if that is where they would like to progress.

Things to consider

Due to company expanding they are looking at moving to Horton-wood, Telford later in the year. Due to working on the coloured wires excellent vision is required During the winter months the hours can be very long with working weekends being expected. College day release from September From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
