    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The Post holder will be expected to attend the training providers establishment as part of the apprentice training on a part time, day, or block release basis and to ensure that all deadlines for the submitting of work, portfolios, assignments are delivered on time.

  • Undertake all training and education required as part of the apprenticeship.
  • To carry out continued electrical maintenance under the supervision of a qualified electrician until such time that qualification allows unsupervised work.
  • Install wiring systems, electrotechnical.
  • Design, build, install and maintain electrical equipment and systems.
  • Terminate and connect conductors, cable and cords in electrical systems.

Desired skills

  • An enthusiasm for the site based trade and willingness to work and learn very important. 
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Kind and Polite.
  • Being able to work as part of a team.

Personal qualities

  • You must be ambitious, hard working and reliable with a positive attitude to learn new skills and adapt to different situations.
  • You need to be able to work under pressure.
  • No previous experience necessarily required. Training will be given.

Qualifications required

  • Ideally the candidate will have GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English at Grade C
  • A GCSE in Science would also be preferred or equivalent.

Future prospects

To progress to a site based fully skilled electrician, with the potential to head a team of electricians following the right experience/time served.

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
