    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

You will be working in the nursery alongside a professional and experienced team, learning a range of skills to develop a career working in a Children and Young People’s setting.
Do you enjoy working with children and want to progress with it further? An apprentice nursery nurse is required to earn and learn in an excellent setting which provides a high standard of training/experience.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • You will be working in the day care centre dealing with a variety of children – from babies and toddlers to 3 and 4 year olds.
  • You will be trained to a high standard in all duties required of you involving keeping the children safe and enhancing their learning/play.
  • You will be supported throughout your training and treated as a valuable member of staff. 
  • Ensuring safety of children at all times
  • Supporting development through play
  • Preparing and feeding children
  • Keeping the nursery clean

Requirements and prospects

Personal qualities

You will also have to provide the employer with two references and pass a DBS check. 

Qualifications required

  • GCSE grades A-C in Maths & English (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Must have a Level 2 in childcare.

Future prospects

As long as you complete your Apprenticeship to a high standard you may be offered a permanent position with the Nursery.

Things to consider

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.40 per hour (From April 1st 2017 this will be increasing to £3.50 per hour). This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
