    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

We are looking for a Business Support Apprentice to provide a support function for our law firm. Our law firm is a fast paced and dynamic environment so the ability to multi task and manage a range of responsibilities is key.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Reception and hospitality duties.
  • Accurate and efficient scanning and storing of documents on client records.
  • Production of letters.
  • Sending of emails.
  • Accurate updating of client records.
  • Post duties.
  • Handling telephone enquiries and messages.
  • Supporting the senior partner in the provision of a high quality service to clients.
  • Carrying out tasks which have been delegated by the senior partner.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Strong work ethic required
  • Good communication skills, with clients and other team members, is essential
  • Must be able to work as part of a team, assisting where required
  • Willingness to respond to change and adapt quickly when required
  • A positive attitude with a flexible working approach
  • IT skills
  • The the ability to speak fluent Urdu and Punjabi would be an advantage, but is not essential

Personal qualities

  • You must be able to take responsibility for your own duties and perform them to the very highest standard.
  • You will work as part of a team and can expect help and support, at all times, from the other members.
  • You will be expected to offer them your support.
  • You should have an interest in advancing through the training, to becoming a fully efficient administrator.

Qualifications required

  • 5 GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English.
  • The ability to use MS packages - Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • An interest in IT, or an IT qualification.

Future prospects

This vacancy is for the duration of your Apprenticeship (approx. 18 months) and on successful completion of your programme, you may be offered a permanent contract.

16-17 - £4.00 per hour 18-20 - £5.55 per hour 21+ £6.95 per hour
