    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

You will be asked to perform general duties around the salon and will gain experience whilst doing this in the salon.

You will be expected to use your free time practicing and as you progress you will learn more advanced hairdressing techniques.

As an apprentice hairstylist your duties will include but will not be limited to:

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

Potential candidates should be friendly and be able to interact well with customers.  A good telephone manner is essential, you must be able to work both on your own and as part of a team and be able to use your own intiative.

Personal qualities

You must have commitment and dedication to your training to enable you to complete your qualification and be friendly and polite at all times.  You must have the ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment.

Qualifications required

You must have completed a Level 2 NVQ in Hairdressing and have experience of working in a salon.

GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) is also required
