    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Answer, screen and transfer inbound phone calls
  • Receive and direct visitors and clients
  • General clerical duties including photocopying, fax and mailing
  • Maintain electronic and hard copy filing system
  • Retrieve documents from filing system
  • Handle requests for information and data
  • Resolve administrative problems and inquiries
  • Prepare written responses to routine enquiries
  • Prepare and modify documents including correspondence, reports, drafts, memos and emails
  • Schedule and Coordinate meetings
  • Prepare agendas for meetings and prepare schedules
  • Record, compile, transcribe and distribute minutes of meetings
  • Open, sort and distribute incoming correspondence
  • Maintain office sully inventories
  • Other duties as required

Future prospects

The APPRENTICESHIP programme will last for 12 months and you will achieve a Level 2 Business Administration QCF qualification, Function Skills in Maths, English (if required). You will be based in the employer’s office/workplace so you gain 12 months’ work experience, and the opportunity for an interview for a permanent role at the end of a successful APPRENTICESHIP.
