Responsibilities of the Software Development IT Apprentice:

Approximately 85% of the apprentice’s time will involve training on software reporting and development using general technologies such as SQL, SSRS, Windows Server, Exchange as well as more bespoke software such as Proclaim case management.

You will spend 15% of time working directly with the IT manager on hardware equipment such as servers, switches, SAN and firewalls.

You will work in conjunction with the external IT business support partners.

The successful apprentice’s weekly breakdown will be:

  • 15% hardware support
  • 50% SSRS/reporting
  • 25% Proclaim support
  • 10% server work

Someone with ideally 5 GCSE grades (C and above) or equivalent, including Mathematics and English.

Future prospects

92% of QA Apprentices secure permanent employment after finishing their apprenticeship. Additionally there may be opportunities to undertake further apprenticeship training as many of our programmes offer on-going development tracks.

Things to consider

From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
