    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Chatham Marine is looking for a Customer Service Apprentice to join their busy Exeter office. The apprentice will be responsible for telesales, order processing and administration of all relevant documentation.

Key Tasks:

  • Taking telephone calls from customers for orders and queries and dealing with all requests as appropriate
  • Input of all written, faxed and telephone orders on the day of receipt with 100% accuracy, contacting customers when orders will be delayed or unfulfilled, and the accurate filing of all relevant order records.
  • Collate daily invoices and credit notes as required for despatch to correct customers
  • Send out customer’s monthly statements
  • Accept and deal with customer queries, logged and filed in the correct manner.
  • Open Chatham mail and distribute date stamped to correct personnel.
  • Maintain harmonious relations with customers and staff and show a polite and professional attitude at all times
  • Adhere to Company Health & Safety Policy, reporting any incidents or accidents to the Finance & Operations Director.
  • Be aware of the rules within the Company handbook.
  • To comply with any reasonable instruction in a positive manner.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

You must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes including: Word and Excel and possess a good telephone manner and interpersonal skills.
