Due to recent expansion we are looking for an apprentice to work across a variety of duties alongside a family run unit.  You will be prepared to work in all weathers alongside the family carrying out day to day roles giving you the confidence to complete tasks on your own.

Working to support both the livestock and estate work of this Dairy Farm, you will learn all aspects of the agricultural industry. 

Tasks will include:

  • Working with cows.
  • Establishing and upholding appropriate welfare conditions.
  • Providing feed, water and accommodation.
  • Monitoring health and wellbeing.
  • Assisting with animal movement.
  • Operating and maintaining equipment to support livestock.
  • Agricultural skills and work routines.
  • Estate skills.
  • Tractor driving.
  • Maintaining the Farm.
  • Milking following training.

Qualifications required

  • GCSE English and Maths grades D or above, or equivalent qualification
  • Successful completion of tractor test (paid for by employer)
  • Completion of training health and safety on the farm

Future prospects

Progression onto level 3 apprenticeship, growing with additional land and parlours being developed. Father in retiring and so progression with more responsibility on the farm

Things to consider

You must ensure you have suitable travel arrangements in place to get to and from work and to attend college. The employer is right on the bus route to Woolacombe, but don’t run on a Sunday and not to meet start and finish times. From April 1st 2017 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the National Minimum Wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.
