Responsibilities of the Apprentice IT Technician:

The role will involve configuring systems with both additional hardware and software making them ready for users within the relevant company. You will be shown how to perform checks on system health and how to diagnose IT problems and make swift resolutions.

Daily duties will include:

  • Install and configure software applications. Assist with System Diagnosis
  • Install and configure Hardware systems (Memory Upgrades etc)
  • Provide online and phone support for clients
  • Onsite client visits
  • Maintain satisfactory health and safety standards
  • Most systems will be based around Intel hardware and Microsoft operating systems and user software

  • Good understanding of Windows operating system
  • How to install additional software such as MS Office, printers and anti-virus

Qualifications required

Someone with ideally 5 GCSE grades (C and above) or equivalent, including Mathematics and English.

Future prospects

92% of QA Apprentices secure permanent employment after finishing their apprenticeship. Additionally there may be opportunities to undertake further apprenticeship training as many of our programmes offer on-going development tracks.

Things to consider

From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
